Indonesia Basic Surf Travel Guide - Tides
Tides
There are very complex influences on tidal movements in Indonesia. Caused by islands, straights, inlets and the tides can vary immensely in areas that are geographically quite close to one another.
At one world class wave in Lombok, the close proximity of the Bali - Lombok straight, has a huge influence on the lineup. Tides also vary over the lunar cycle in the difference between high and low tides.
Indonesia has some very shallow reefs, and awareness of the way those set ups break during different types of tidal rhythms can ultimately mean more waves under your belt.
